I have asked over the years when the Detroit Red Wings won the Stanley Cup were they going to put the team on a Wheaties box. General Mills said no but they put Shanahan on a Canadian box WHY?
There are probably 2 good reasons Shanahan was put on not 1 but 3 Maple Frosted Wheaties boxes.
First is that Wheaties was pushing the new cereal flavor. The second is that Brendan Shanahan is Canadian. He was a member of the 1998 olympic team (finished 4th) and General Mills was highlighting Team Canada.
It may have all come down to timing. Maybe if Maple Frosted Wheaties hadn’t been launched during the Red Wings run they would have been on the iconic orange Wheaties box.
